Microsoft SQL Server 2016 comes packed with a significant amount of updates and new features. It is an exciting release, but figuring out what updates matter to your business can be an intimidating task. Two big changes that can have a real impact on your business are the updates to SQL Server Reporting Services and the addition of an R Server within SQL Server.
SQL Server Reporting Services 2016 (SSRS 2016)
SSRS 2016 comes with the biggest collection of updates in years. Some of the key new features are:
- An updated User Interface, including a new layout and an HTML5 container, which means you can now access your reports from any browser.
- Adjustable parameters. Gone are the days of fixed parameters at the top of your report. With 2016 you can now adjust the order and layout of your report parameters.
- And most importantly, mobile reporting! Microsoft has added a completely new report type to reporting services designed so you can customize your reports across all devices and platforms.
R Server in SQL Server 2016
R is the world’s most popular programming language for statistical computing and predictive analytics, used by more than 2 million people worldwide–and it’s available for free. On April 6, 2015, Microsoft closed its acquisition of Revolution Analytics, which has made R enterprise-ready with speed and scalability for the largest data warehouses and Hadoop systems. Today, SQL Server 2016 Enterprise provides an integrated, scalable and enterprise ready R deployment server for advanced analytics in a familiar environment.
