COVID-19 has and continues to bend and shape our new normal. With employees working from home on a regular basis, our monthly cyber security webinar will help you to understand how those changes affect business security. This month we focused on two key areas to help guide you through this changing landscape: Ransomware and Authentication.
Ransomware is a constant threat to businesses small and large. When organizations are hit there are two options: to pay or not to pay. The issues with paying include the fact that there is no guarantee that the attacker will decrypt all files and encouraging future attacks. To learn more about responding to ransomware attacks, check out our guide. This month, we highlighted two stories.
- Honda: At the Tokyo offices, Honda’s servers were hit by ransomware. This resulted in a hold on production for a significant amount of time. During this time, sensitive information was leaked and cost Honda a great deal of money.
- Michigan State: Michigan State was hit by a “gang” that frequently steals and publishes the information on public sites. The “gang” has attempted to extort the school to pay for the leaked information. Michigan State has resolved to not pay the ransom.
Along with hitting on the latest news related to cyber security. We discussed Authentication facts and trends. We discussed the importance of admin policies and password managers. Most organizations should expect to have a breach at some point in time, however, there are ways to mitigate that risk and impact. We suggest our One-Day MFA offering – click here to learn more.
