Office 365 has rolled out a number of changes recently. The most noteworthy that are related to SharePoint Online are highlighted below.
First, the biggest change is the replacement of the Sites tile with one named SharePoint.
Click on the SharePoint navigation tile and you discover another change. SharePoint Home displays the recent sites and portals you are most active in and following, plus recommended sites and company-wide sites See the old vs. new comparison below.

Clients with O365 SharePoint Online have asked:
- Where is the information coming from?
- Some of our tiles have our corporate logo as the tile’s background image and some have “box” icons with the first letter of the first two words in the site’s title. Is there a setting I can use to make all of them present the same?
- There are tiles in the display that link to “Page not Found” error pages. What’s causing that and how can I fix it?
1. Where is the information coming from?
While the presentation of the page has been updated, the data sources are still the same. Each user sees their own set of data. The information is stored in two lists as part of the user’s MySite functionality:
The first list displays on Site Contents as: “MicroFeed.” Microsoft describes the Microfeed list as “MySite MicroFeed Persistent Storage List.”

The second list, the Social list, is described as: “Provides data support to social features.”

Clicking into each item shows a “sub-list” of items related to displays in a user’s editable profile fields and following links. Review the “Content Data” field of these items to see what it is storing:
The Social list has been secured from a normal user’s ability to open this list. Even though the user has access to the list’s Settings page and can create new views, the ability to view the list directly is blocked.
2. Some of our tiles have our corporate logo as the tile’s background image and some have “box” icons with the first letter of the first two words in the site’s title. Is there a setting I can use to make all of them present the same?
Unfortunately, no. If you have configured a logo file (via custom branding or the OOB setting, your site’s tiles will display the logo. There is no setting where you can disable this.
Sites that use the OOB SharePoint Icon and O365 Groups display a “box” with the first letter of the two first words in the site’s title. There is no setting available to alter this.
3. There are tiles in the display that link to “Page not Found” error pages. What’s causing that and how can I fix it?
This appears to happen when a site you have followed has been deleted. The entry in the Social and Microfeed lists is not automatically removed.
To remove the tile, click the “Star” icon to stop following the site.
