by | Jun 2, 2020 | Collaboration

Microsoft Teams was launched in May 2017. Since that time there have been 120 new and updated features. These updates are in three areas: In development (40), Rolling out (21), and Launched (59). Here are some of the latest features:

  • Raise your hand in a meeting
  • Roll call! (Meeting Attendance)
  •  3×3 box Meetings
  • Pop out chat
  • Channel analytics
  • Add system audio to meetings
  • Change meeting options during a meeting
  • Customizable Templates
  • Scope Search

Raise your hand in a meeting

Have something to say, but don’t want to interrupt the meeting? Try the new raise your hand option. Simply click the hand icon from your control bar. This will alert the meeting organizer you have a question.

Roll call!

Meeting organizers can now download the meeting attendees. The report will download a CVS file that can be opened in Excel. The file will contain the name, join time, and leave time of meeting attendees.

Meetings are going 3×3

Finally! Teams will now display up to 9 videos during a call. Depending on the number of participants in the meeting Teams will dynamically adjust the display to accommodate the participants video during a call.

Pop out chat

Click the icon next to a contact in chat and you will be able to “Pop out chat” into a new window. This will allow you to chat while working in other areas of Teams.

Channel analytics have arrived

From your teams list, go to the team and select More options, More options icon > Manage team > Analytics. Here you can see Channel metrics. The time period for data has been increased to 90 days.

Add system audio meetings

Let’s say you want to share a YouTube video during a Teams meeting. When you go to share the video click the “Include system audio” box and your computer’s audio will also be included.

Change meeting options during a meeting

During a meeting, select Show participantsin the meeting controls. Then, above the list of participants, choose Manage permissions.

Now you can manage the following options:

Customization Templates

When creating a new team, users soon will be able to choose from a variety of customizable templates depending on the purpose of the team. Options will include common team types like event management or crisis response, as well as industry-specific templates like hospital ward or bank branch.

Scope Search

Soon when you perform a search (Ctrl + F) your search will show results from the Team, Channel, or Chat that you are in. Previously the search would show the results from your entire Teams application.
