The Department of Defense requires their suppliers to protect certain types of information. Those who hold defense contracts must comply with DFARS, or the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement. Any downstream suppliers to contract holders are also affected by this regulation. The focus is on a specific type of information, Controlled Unclassified Information. DFARS is a data protection regulation that focuses on gathering documents, setting up systems, and developing a team to protect sensitive information.
