On November 23rd, Peters & Associates was proud to help sponsor the 2nd ChickTech High School Conference for the Chicago Western Suburban chapter.  Nearly 80 young women from local area high schools attended the event at Benedictine University.  Congressman Bill Foster helped kick off the day, speaking to the girls about the work he and his wife have done in STEM and future possibilities for them in the field.  He was followed by Keynote speaker Toni Thompson, President of Retail Solutions at RR Donnelley, who shared an inspirational speech on her career and thoughts on practices that would lead them on the path to success in the future.

The main program consisted of a series of hands-on workshops enabling these young women an opportunity to explore the possibilities that are out there for them in the world of technology.  Sessions included Building Robots, College 101, Brand You! Building your Brand, How Technology Enables Hearing, Chemistry of Bath Bombs, Gene Slicing/Biohacking, Kanban, and the Science of Escape Rooms.  Workshop leaders and volunteers included leading women in various technology fields as well as alums of the ChickTech High School Program.

The girls took time over lunch to create Thank You notes – one truly encapsulated the purpose behind the event:

“Thank you for inspiring me to pursue a career in STEM.  I was already interested in engineer but felt hesitant because of the challenges that come with being a female minority.  However, your speech truly impacted me and showed me that it is definitely possible for me to be as successful as you!  Once again, thank you for your time and efforts spent on the ChickTech event. Sincerely, Melissa C.”

In addition to the High School program, ChickTech also sponsors networking events for women in technology throughout the year.  If you are interested in learning more about ChickTech, reach out to Rachael at Rachael.narel@peters.com, Chapter Co-Director.
